Chelsea Cove

Chelsea Cove, the new segment of Hudson River Park just alongside Chelsea Piers, is finally open, and Lynden B. Miller’s vibrant, mounded flower beds, placed at the entrance to the park, steal the show. Large swaths of perennials--salvias, daylilies, Knockout roses, lady’s mantle, and coreopsis, just to name a few--fill the curving raised beds with color, making it possible for visitors to sit surrounded by flowers. The bright colors play off each other, and everything is in perfect balance, which is what we have come to expect from Ms. Miller’s gardens. The gardens herald the entrance to the 9.5 acre park, which was designed by Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates and includes a very popular skate park and carousel.
